How old will my puppy be when I can bring him/her home? The ideal time for a puppy to go to a new home is during the 7th week. This is a natural separation period between mom and her offspring. However, if the new owner is not able to bring the baby home during this week, then I keep the puppy until at least 10 weeks old. There is a natural fear period that occurs during the 8th and 9th week. A puppy should be kept in a familiar environment during this time and without introduction to new stimuli. Back to top
Will you ship a puppy? We will not ship a puppy as cargo/excess baggage via any airline, it is far too tramatic for the Great Dane breed and I won't subject my puppies to anything that could be potentially harmful whether it be physical or mental. However, traveling as a "carry on" in a sherba bag or other specially designed pet carrier is acceptable as long as the puppy is accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Back to top
What kind of dog food do you recommend? I use and highly recommend Eagle Pack. All of our puppies are weaned on to the Hollistic LG/Giant Breed Puppy formula until around 12 months old and then slowly transition over to the Adult Maintance formula. Back to top
How old will the puppy be when he/she receives the first vaccination? The first course of vaccines are given at 10 weeks old. Vaccines should not be given prior to 8 weeks old and I wait until the puppy is past the fear period, 8-9 weeks, to visit my veterinarian for immunization. Back to top
When can I place a deposit? I do not accept deposits until after a litter is born and I see what we have. I do not like to accept money for a deposit prior to the litter being whelped since I cannot guarantee that what you are looking for will be in the anticipated litter. Back to top
Do you crop pet/companion puppies? Our pet/companion puppies are never cropped since it can be an unpleasant experience for the puppy and is an unnecessary procedure in the role of a companion Great Dane. It is a myth that natural ears are the CAUSE of ear infections. An ear infection is usually secondary to an overgrowth of yeast within the body. Returning balance to the body and/or intestinal flora usually cures the problem. Cropped danes can get infections, too. Our dogs have been free of any ear infections to date. Back to top
Can I adopt a pet/companion puppy on full registration? NO. We always place pet/companion puppies on limited registration. Full registration is only for dogs that exhibit the potential to become champions and/or breeding stock by possessing virtues or assests that would be of value to the breed. We will not allow a show quality puppy to used for breeding only. Show quality puppies are placed in homes where they will be shown in AKC shows or otherwise placed on limited registration.
