In Greek mythology, Apollo was known as a sun god who raced across the sky in his chariot. He also embodied the ideal masculine beauty.
A second note: The breeder of our Apollo, WCK Danes, follows an auto racing theme in naming puppies. While the mythological Apollo obviously did not participate in auto racing events, he surely raced one of the oldest vehicles known to man -- one with REAL horsepower.
